Site Policy and Objectives:
This site is intended as an educational aid for students studying for their ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) on courses currently being ran at various locations throughout Donegal. The videos presented are intended to perhaps strengthen their learning. Sometimes looking at things from a different perspective or seeing a different demonstration of required skills can aid learning. E-mail addresses are requested so the webmaster can contact the registered students if necessary and to validate the site user. Bogus registrations will be deleted from the databases.
The site should give students a better understanding of having to use the Internet as a means of learning. Entering registration details and perhaps comments, along with having to log in to a particular part of the site should strengthen their computer skills and disperse some fear of using the Internet, especially entering information into web forms which gather information about the user.
The Forums are intended as a help section to the site. The were originally set-up for the No BordersTo Learning Project ran by FÁS a few years back. Students can discuss topics raised during their courses. (This relates to teaching materials only). Students can also request a video on a particular subject if required. For example: Mail Merge, IF statements, etc. You can use any username you wish to hide your identity. It is only asked that the Forums are use in a professional manner. Again e-mail addresses are requested to validate the user.
Topics posted to the Forums are removed after the courses are finished.
The site is monitored each night from 1900 hrs to 2100 hrs
( 7pm to 9 pm ). Circumstances permitting
Site Overview: The site itself is an "experimental hobby" by the webmaster (Gerard Doherty).
The database used is Microsoft Access 2003. Students will be familiar with this type of database as it is used in Module 5 of the ECDL. The site uses 2 databases. A Student database and a Forum database. The information is gathered in forms on the various pages and stored in the databases. The content on the various pages are delivered using ASP (Active Server Pages), VB script and Javascript. |
